With schedules like that how is anyone supposed to measure how good they are? By them barely getting by the UNC`s of the world. Or by them beating all mighty clemson, that can wave bye bye to top 25, by having 3 non offensive TD`s.

Not schedule WM, ECU, and Ohio on a regular basis. There basketball schedule is even more of a joke.
it's funny, you'd think every other team in the nation has an OOC schedule of Florida, USC, LSU and Texas...but alas, every other team schedules the Arkansas State's, Florida International, Furman, etc.

A major D-1 "powerhouse" should not schedule a team that isn't D-1.
In the last 12 seasons FSU has played 1 D-2 team.
vt plays 1 or more every season.

I wish I was as smart about college football as I am Basketball and knew the sites that calculated all this stuff up, to compare VT's ooc schedule to say a UT's or Miami on a yearly basis would be like comparing Norton's ooc schedule to PV's.
You VT haters have no idea what you're talking about. VT's strength of schedule is 23rd. Georgia and Tennesse are 17th and 15th respectively. While VT doesn't play the toughest schedule, it would be ignorant to say their schedule is weak and "brag" that these 2 sec teams schedule is much harder. By the way, South Carolina has the toughest schedule in the nation.

Direct from the VT website, in 2000 they played Akron, UCF, ECU, and UVA out of conference. They only played one ranked team, it was in conference rival (Big East) Miami. In 2001 they played UConn, Western Michigan, UCF, and UVA ooc again only playing one ranked team Miami. In 2002 they played Arkansas State, LSU, Marshall, Texam AM,Western Michigan, and UVA ooc. They played three ranked teams out of conference. In 2003 they played UCF, JMU, Texas AM, UConn, and UVA they didn't play any ranked OOC teams, and two overall. In 2004, they played USC, WMU, WVU, Florida AM, and UVA. They played three ranked ooc teams this season. In 2005, Ohio, WVU, and Marshall. No ranked teams ooc that season. In 2006, Northeastern, Cincy, Kent State, and Southern Miss. Bottom line it's a complete joke, when I have more time if you'd like I'll go do Miami and UT and compare. So since 2000 including this year they've played 7 ranked teams out of conference, 6 of which came in two seasons, two also who were UVA and Marshall (not what I'd called traditional powers).
everyone does it..but not 5 times a year...if a team is in the ACC they have enough cupcakes already...in the SEC that isn't the case

If Virginia had not slipped up against Wyoming in the opener they would be ranked. They have UConn up next, then Maryland and NC State on the road. A couple of more wins and they will definitely make the top 25.
Yeah but that's the point. The conversation on here went to nonconference schedules. My point is this: in a Conference like the ACC, a team needs a stiff nonconference schedule cuz their conference is filled with cup-cakes. In the SEC you don't need those strong nonconference games cuz in the conference games most everyone you play will be ranked.
Well in my opinion the ACC isn't "filled with cupcakes". They aren't on the SEC's level, but their a lot closer now than they were 5 years ago. 5 years from now who knows?
Layoff the Hokies they are going to Durham to play the tough ACC power Duke Blue Devils, should win probably 13-6 and move to number 6 0r 7 in the nation.

As crappy as UT has been, their opponent has beaten a pretty good team in Auburn. Duke has actually played pretty well this year, outside of Connecticut. 11 point loss to VA, 6 point win over Northwestern, 3 point loss to Navy, 10 point loss to Miami, 5 point loss to Wake.
I don't quite get the whipping them out and measuring them this year, neither is very good.
it mustve helped a whole lot when they won all of 5 games in 2005
i think vt has done just fine in recruiting
id rather win 10-11 games with 3 star kids than win 5 with hella 5 stars

Are you obsessed with VT.....how come you always compare them with other teams. No VT hasn't won a national championship in football (their football program didn't get big until the Michael Vick era). I also notice you you always try to bring down the Burton Raiders.......just because your teams aren't doing great you have to try to find fault in others. VT won't win the national championship this year, they might never win one...all I know is their football program has come a long way in the last 10 years or so.
He is just laying out the facts...and here's another one...It is a fact that it is foolish to even try to compare ACC football with SEC football...it isn't even in the same stratosphere...For example, there are no less than 7 SEC teams that could outright win the ACC this year...and 5 of em would have a relatively easy time doing so..
Your'e about as stupid as your buddy! I will agree that the sec is stronger (WHOOPIE!!) LSU and FLA would win with ease but that's all. I predict that in 2-3 years the ACC will be stronger. When Florida St and Miami get back to where they usually are, the conference will rival the sec and pac 10.

If you really want to determine the strength of a conference, there are a couple of ways to do it and not really skew the results. You need to look at the # of teams with a winning record and take that as a percentage. Then rank each conference according to who has the higher percentage of teams with winning records. Then take the entire conferences win/loss record and determine what percentage of their losses are conference and which are nonconference. Then rank each conference with the conference with the highest percentage of conference losses coming first. Then take each ranking and average it and it give you a clearer picture as to each conferences overall strength. I did this with the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big East, Pac 10, and Big 12...and it is pretty accurate. Shakes out like this.
Overall % of teams with winning records:
1-SEC 92% (1 team with a losing overall record)
2-Big 12 75% (3 teams with losing or .500 records)
3-Big 10 70% (3 teams with losing or .500 records)
4-ACC 66% (4 teams with losing or .500 records)
5-Big East 58% (3 teams with losing or .500 records)
6-Pac 10 50% (5 teams with losing of .500 records)
Overall percentage of conference and nonconference losses:
1-SEC 82% of losses conference and 18% nonconference
2-Big 10 (tie) 75% of losses conference and 25% nonconference
Pac 10 (tie) 75% of losses conference and 25% nonconference
4-ACC 61% of losses conference and 39% nonconference
5-Big 12 50% of losses conference and 50% nonconference
6-Big East 36% of losses conference and 64% nonconference
Overall rank:
1-SEC (1 avg.)
2-Big 10 (2.5 avg)
3-Big 12 (3.5 avg)
4-ACC (tie) (4 avg)
Pac 10 (tie)(4 avg)
6-Big East (5.5 avg)
That works out to be a pretty accurate picture as to the overall strength of each conference.

Nothing was said about Alabama, they play a schedule, and are always crapped on by the polls.
The only team in the SEC west that could win the ACC this year is LSU. Bama the 2nd best team in the west thus far has lost a game to an ACC opponent who happens to be in 4th place in their division.
In the east, Florida is probably the only team that could win it, maybe SC.
now see i agree with the sec west part, but the sec east, i think throws at least three teams that could win the acc this year, uf, sc, and either ut, uga, or uk.
